Beautiful Scottish Highlands

I visited the Scottish Highlands about a week into my trip with Contiki, and it was beyond amazing. We split the Highlands into two days with the East Highlands and the West Highlands. We drove around looking at the views stopping at Loch Ness, to pet hairy coos, and to look at castles. Because the highlands are so beautiful, I decided to show you what I saw rather than tell you.

Loch Ness

Situated in the Scottish Highlands, Loch Ness is one of the largest lakes in this country. This is obviously not why Loch Ness is famous, and I am sorry to say that the only lake monster I saw was a plastic one. Even though I did not see a lake monster, I did see the beautiful views that the lake offered.

Eilean Donan Castle

The Eilean Donan Castle, built in the 13th century, is a beautiful castle that sits on an island between 3 lochs. This castle has a rich history and different Scottish Clans have taken their claim of the castle.

All over the Scottish Highlands: Hairy Coos

I loved that during our days in the Scottish Highlands it was like we were on a road trip. One thing that I did not think that we would get to do in a big coach was pull off to the side of the road to pet the cute cows, but we did. This was such a fun moment as we ran out into the rain to pet these big hairy fluff balls.

I really loved these days filled with driving and just stopping where it was pretty and in little towns for lunch and dinner. I would highly recommend exploring the highlands. We are about halfway into talking about my Great Britain Contiki tour, if you are thinking about doing this tour with Contiki you can check out their itinerary here!
