As you may remember at the very beginning of the Tarot series Tarot is divided into 4 elements: water, air, earth, and fire. This is a theme that we will see in a lot of magic and mystical beliefs and it is a way that a lot of different practices are connected. Tarot and astrology are connected through these elements as well.
For a brief intro into astrology, there are 12 zodiac signs that can make up one’s birth chart. The most common thing that people focus on is the sun sign and we will talk next week about what this means.
This is the relations between the two elements
Those are the general associations between the signs and the tarot cards, but there are many cards that are directly associated with specific signs. These connections just add an extra layer of meaning to these cards as the astrology sign connects them to a higher energy.
Here are the signs and the cards that they are connected to:
Aries (Mar 21 to Apr 19)
This is the cardinal fire sign ruled by mars. Aries is strongly associated with the Emperor card and rules the Queen of Wands cards. Queen of Wands card and Aries share traits such as boldness and assertiveness.
Taurus (April 20 to May 20):
Taurus is an earth sign ruled by Venus The High Priest card is the major arcana card connected to Taurus. This sign rules over the King of Pentacles with their common traits being ones of steadiness and sensual.
Gemini (May 21 to Jun 30):
This is an air sign ruled by mercury, and strongly associated with the Lovers card. The Knight of Swords is ruled by Gemini and shares a lot of Gemini’s traits such as being sociable and clever.
Cancer (Jun 21-Jul 22):
Cancer is a water sign ruled by the moon. The Chariot card is connected to this sign. The Queen of Cups is ruled by Cancer and shares a lot of the same traits such as being empathetic and sensitive.
Leo (Jul. 23 – Aug 22):
Leo is ruled by the sun and is connected with the Strength card. The King of Wands is under Leo’s rule and shares the same confidence and regality.
Virgo (Aug 23 – Sep 22):
Virgo is an earth sign, and like Gemini it is ruled by Mercury. The trump card that is connected to Virgo is the Hermit. This sign is famously a meticulous and careful sign and it rules over the Knight of Pentacles giving that card similar traits.
Libra (Sep 23 – Oct 22):
Another sign ruled by Venus, Libra is the cardinal air sign and has the symbol of scales. It is aptly associated with the major arcana of Justice. Libra is also the ruler of the Queen of Swords sharing traits like being balanced and diplomatic.
Scorpio (Oct 23 – Nov 21):
Scorpio, like Aries, is ruled by Mars and shares that intensity. This is shown in tarot as well as it is strongly associated with the Death Card. This sign rules the King of Cups and has intense and engaging characteristics.
Sagittarius (Nov 22 – Dec 21):
The sign ruled by Jupiter this sign is connected to the Temperance trump card. Sagittarius is the ruler of the Knight of Wands with adventurous and energetic traits.
Capricorn (Dec 22 – Jan 19):
The Cardinal earth sign ruled by Saturn, the Devil card is associated with this sign. Ambition and authority are traits of both this sign and the Queen of Pentacles which it rules.
Aquarius (Jan 20 – Feb 18):
Like Capricorn, air sign Aquarius is also ruled by Saturn. This zodiac sign is connected to the Star card and rules over the King of Swords with uncompromising and willful traits.
Pisces (Feb 19 – Mar 20):
Pisces is a water sign ruled by Jupiter and is strongly connected to the Moon in the major arcana. The Knight of Cups is ruled by Pisces and has a compassionate and mellow demeanor.
